Bike Ride PLUS 70.3 Iron Man
This year will be my biggest challenge ever. I will be riding the length of Israel from the very top, near the Lebanon border to the very bottom, near the Egyptian border from the 15th to 19th May 2017. You may think it is a tiny country and that it’s all downhill but I assure you that we are riding over 700 km in sweltering heat in a country full of Israeli drivers! This will be the challenge of a lifetime or so I thought – but then 6 friends somehow convinced me to also take part in the Ironman 70.3 in Zurich, Switzerland just 3 weeks later – this event consists of a 1.9km open water swim - I could only manage about 10 lengths of breast stroke back in November 2016, a 90km bike ride and a 21km run - which in old money is half a marathon - all one after another in, I’m hoping under 7 hours – I must be mad!
Whilst I am kind of loving the challenges - though not sure Adele is!, I wanted to do something extra challenging because last year we lost a close friend, Darren Walshaw to a brain tumour and we wanted to do something special in his memory. He left a wife and 2 teenage boys.
The charities we are raising money for are the Carmiel Children’s Village - supported by UJIA - home to over 200 children orphaned or court ordered to leave their families. We will be refurbishing one of the family homes in memory of Darren. The ride will also support A Smile for Orly, a Manchester based charity which provides services and support to local children’s activities. This is in memory of Orly Feddy, the daughter of our friends Rebecca and Lee Feddy, who tragically died at the age of just 18 months.
My personal goal is to raise £10,000 and I would be extremely grateful if you could please support me. You can donate here online or by sending your cheque to UJIA – 72 Singleton Road, Salford M7 4LU.
I personally want to thank you in advance for supporting me and both of these amazing causes.
